Getting to Know You: Lost

Do you ever find yourself directionally challenged, physically lost in this world?

Do you ever feel emotionally lost, unable to find your true path or calling?

Let's talk about what it's like to be lost.

Anyone can answer!

My Sight doesn't work underground. Does that count?

I don't feel lost or found - I feel like I'm sinking.

I am never lost. I know where basement is, and where lab is.

I know how to make things, I feel good.

I am not capable of being lost.

Yet humans are frequently. It is frustrating. All the signs are there. They are posted clearly in their own way. Humans know in which direction they should go.

Yet, they choose to ignore it. Why would humans ignore their Destiny? It is the right path.

It is the best path.

I felt lost in the jungle when I was on the run from the enemy, trying to save Lucy's life, and knew Dad had died. They'd trained me, but I didn't know what to do or where to turn. It almost got us all killed.

I'm never going to be lost again.

Ah shit Kae. I wish that was true, but it's going to get worse before it gets better. And sometimes I worry about you more than anyone else.

Oh well. I don't really want to talk about it anymore.

I never felt lost until Micheal started stealing my powers. When he stole my mental map, then I felt lost. I felt defeated. I felt helpless. I couldn't find Grace, I couldn't find anything.

I used to get lost pretty often, but I have a GPS now and my BlackBerry. Technology is great.

I'm at a cross road and so lost. I don't know which way to go. Sometimes giving up and going with the flow feels easier but it's still giving up. And nothing bothers me more then the thought of giving up
Then there's that road I've been on so long and sometimes feel like I'll never reach the end. Some never do so who am I to aspire to such a place?

I'm sorry you feel that way, AW. I felt completely lost in my career and my life in general, but everything turned around when I least expected it.

I used to think it was just my author's use of artistic license, but then I found out she had paths open to her when she least expected it, too. Now I think it can happen for anyone.

I'm never lost, but I sometimes lose track of Ricky. Then I have to hunt him down again so I can make sure he's not in danger.

My rock star career wasn't exactly lost before I found him, but it was definitely stalled. He knew how to get me on the right path again, so it's important that I not misplace him or let him wander off.

Wait a minute, Kalila. You didn't find me. I found you.

Don't bother me with details, Ricky.

Rlght now. since my Aunt's disappearance (suicide) i have been completely lost. Everything is new and strange and terrifying. Checking in and staying at this posh hotel, not knowing where I am going next or who I am going to meet. I'm scared out of my wits but what can I do but follow Aunt's instructions and continue forward. Each day is like throwing myself over a precipice and praying I land somewhere safe.

Once, when my husband and I were on vacation, we were driving on what we thought was the right road to eventually reach our rental cottage. Suddenly, the road ended. At a harbour. With a naval base. And a big sign saying 'RESTRICTED.'

We were lost.

When I first came to New York I was three. Mum and Dad were fighting and I left the apartment. Wandered the strange streets barefoot and in my underwear for what seemed hours. I'd never been in a city before. At first it was fascinating. I was completely lost when a cop found me crying.

Mum beat me when he took me home. I think she was madder at seeing the cop on her doorstep than anything. Dad was gone. I never saw him again.

Ricky, don't depend too much on your technology devices.

Ricky said...

Is that authorial advice?

bunnygirl said...

No, Ricky, it's the voice of experience. My husband and I were recently in an unfamiliar town, trying to find our hotel. We followed the instructions on his BlackBerry to the letter and ended up in a very scary neighborhood, nowhere near our hotel.

Nothing can get you lost quite like modern technology.

AW,
Writing (I assume you mean writing) is a journey not a destination. You can't ever get lost when you're focused on what you're doing right now rather than what lies ahead.

The only time I ever feel lost as a writer is when I spend a lot of time worrying about what lies ahead and where other people are going. Usually, though, I just go write myself a story and then I find my way again.

I've been out of my element ever since I showed up on my new home, but truly lost? I don't think it can happen just yet.

I think someone said something about going to Earth after the tour to Saturn though. That seems... like a bad idea.
