Getting to Know You: Friendship

Note: Character of the Week, unfortunately, is postponed, due to moderator needing to do less fun things. Will return next week for sure. Now for today's post:

We all have people in our lives who are important to us, like family and allies, but friends hold a special place in our heart. They like us just because.

So who are your friends? How did you meet and become friends? Do you have a lot of friends, or just one or two really special ones?

Let's talk about our friendships today!

Characters only, please.

All humans are my friends; as I am theirs. But they must acknowledge the friendship. If they allow me in their lives, they will be fulfilled by it.

Yet, they must allow me in. I cannot enter if the door is closed.

I don't really have many friends, but I have my family. Kae, well, he's just always there. Jason and Marc are different, more like friends, though half the time Jason treats me like a little brother or maybe a son. It's odd, but I guess it's because he's so much older than I am.

People don't really like being friends with the Seer.

I love making friends!

I don't see the point of friendship, since everyone's out for themselves.

That's a pretty cynical attitude, Vic, but I'm not surprised.

What gets me about friendship is how it changes. A lot of my friends from high school and college are married, maybe with kids and living in the suburbs, and we don't have much in common anymore. They think I'm not serious because my career is the polar opposite of the 8-5 cube farm gig. They're completely wrong, and that hurts sometimes.

It's hard to get together with old friends, though, when they're going to bed at about the time I'm heading out to watch one of my clients perform or check out new acts.

See, Ricky? It's like I said. Your so-called friends are only interested in their own lives, just like you're only interested in yours.

You're over-simplifying, Vic, but there's probably some truth in what you say.

I'm your friend, Ricky! And I don't care when you work and when you sleep, or where you live, or what kind of job you have. You're my friend because you're nice and I like you.

Ricky said...

Aww...thanks, Nevin! You're my friend, too.

Nevin said...

Oh, good! So, Ricky...as a friend, would you please stop eating meat, now? You know how I feel about that sort of thing.

Ricky said...

Uh...can I still think on that some more, Nevin? How about I have a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, and maybe a small salad? Will that do for now?

Nevin said...

*sigh* Okay, Ricky. I seem to recall Rome wasn't built in a day.

first time posting, so if I do it wrong . .

From Amy Thompson:
My best friend is Joy Barnes, though I don't always know it. Three years ago she rescued me from homelessness and despair, and didn't ask the prying questions that shut me down and make me want to crawl into myself and never come out. Though she has learned some of my back-story through proximity, she never burdens me with her curiosity, and allows me to divulge my inner secrets in my own way, and in my own time, if ever.

There are times she protects and defends me but, deep into my own neurosis, I don't always understand what she's done for me until weeks or months later. Yes, Joy is my truest friend.
