Character of the week: Brandon!

Introducing our Character of the week, the rebel Brandon! Brandon, please let us know all about you:

My name is Brandon, Brandon Casey.

I have a normal family, Mom, Dad, and my God brother Ian, all living in Washington. You could say I'm the laid-back type; I enjoy sports and a good beer to top off the perfect smoke break, not much more I can say about me.I work full time at a factory in Esquin...well used to, until that day I finally decided to change things for the better and overthrow the Mayor with Marco.

What really did it was running into that woman, Tanessa. Thanks to her I've lost my leg and been thrown in jail. Now, I'm on the run with her from Institute soldiers and a bounty hunter who wants to kill her for revenge....

And all because I agreed to change the city for the better.

A question: Do you have a favorite hangout nearby where you live?

Note: Character of the week is an everybody post.

Ah Brandon. You are more important than even you believe.

Follow your destiny, it shall lead you in directions you can not now imagine.

Ricky said...

Hi, Brandon. You seem so laid-back I would've never guessed your life had gotten so crazy.

Anonymous said...

Hi Brandon, what is the Institute?

Kalila said...

Brandon, I like to hang out in a lamp or bottle. I recommend you do the same, if you can. It'll make it harder for the soldiers to find you.

Anonymous said...

Hi Brandon

That sounds scary. Why do the soldiers want you? What are you going to do?

Want to come to my house? You can hide in my bedroom.

Shadow

Charlene said...

DESTINY,
Thanks I'll...I'll remember that. Almost feels like getting my fortune told.

Ricky,
Yeah, me too.

Anonymous,
The Institute is the government, government facilities around Earth where the army is kept, strategies are planned, and I've heard rumors that testing and research is done there too. They for the most part run their parts of the world.

Kalila,
Thanks but uh...well, kinda too big to fit in anyone's bottle, though I did drop some muscle after the prison sentence.

Anonymous,
They want me by proxy mostly. They want Tanessa most of all, she escaped the Institute somehow, I don't know all the details, its like trying to get secrets from a brick wall with her. I imagine they'll throw me back in jail for life for helping her escape and I don't put it past them to take back the artificial leg I was given...that I wouldn't HAVE if they hadn't shot me.
Thanks for the offer, but I'd only get you involved and ruin your life too. No need to have an innocent life ruined...wish I could say the same for me.

Anonymous said...

Hi Brandon,

Okay, but if you change your mind, I'll tell my mom. You could come for dinner.

Is Tanessa your girlfriend?

Shadow

Charlene said...

My girlfriend? Never! She's too much a pain in my ass, and how could I ever have feelings for someone who ruined my whole life!
I'm only still around because my freedom depends on turning her in.

Jason said...

Hey Brandon,

We know all about doing the wrong thing for all the right reasons. We're behind you, mate.

Kaelin said...

Who do you have to turn her in to?

Anonymous said...

Hi Brandon,

How does your freedom depend on turning her in?

Shadow

Charlene said...

A man, the head of some company. I don't know his name, I only know if I don't do as he says he's going to have me returned to prison. They want her back because she's an escaped mental patient or something.
The man was the arrogant type, you know, the kind who think they're better than everyone else because they are intelligent. I have the feeling he was a scientist of some kind.

-Brandon

Charlene said...

I've been given my freedom in exchange for turning her in, but if I don't, then I go back to jail, since I'm charged with assault of police, assisting in the escape of Tanessa, AND attempting to overthrow the Mayor of Esquin.
I don't know how the man got me free, but I know I don't wanna go back...

-Brandon

Aidan said...

Don't trust that guy, Brandon. Getting some bad vibes off him.

Charlene said...

Aidan,
You're probably right, but my only options are to do as he says for my freedom, or be on the run for the rest of my life. It's a stick situation here.

Anonymous said...

Why did you try to overthrow the Major?

Charlene said...

Heh, well...looking back it was a bad idea, at least at that time, I'm sure it could have been possible.
Marco and I tried to overthrow the Mayor because we, like a lot of people in Esquin, were sick and tired of spending our lives working hard to make minimum wage and pay unfair taxes on EVERYTHING while the Mayor and his elite group got to sit on their asses and enjoy the fruits of our labor. His selfish spending was outta control and many people were facing homelessness. Marco had the idea that we could get him out of office.

I do - well, I did have a place I went to.
I usually just walk when I'm out and about; I don't like being still. There is one place I found that I thought was just mine...it's a bridge over a deep cut but trickling stream. This time of the year it must be different, I guess.
The bridge is like round; it curves up and over so much it's like a circle. I can look at it, could look at it, for hours. It's where I remember meeting Ed, James and Sam for the first time. They said I'd seen them - at their's - before.
Jam was hanging Sam over the edge and threatening to drop him - it's not a long way down but there are stones under it. Now I know Sam better I know why Jam'd want to drop him from a great height.

If you knew then what you know now Brandon would you have gotten involved? Were you happy?

Charlene said...

That's a good question FLOWER, I wasn't happy before I decided to overthrow Esquin, and definitely ain't happy now. I think I might have still tried, done a few things differently; Marco and I wouldn't have met in that bar where Tanessa was that's for sure, and I wouldn't have let Jasmine in on what we were planning.
I thought she was trustworthy, just goes to show you you can't trust anyone these days.

-Brandon

Lazaro said...

I think you should catch Tanessa and eat her brain!

Charlene said...

Eat her brain...sounds gross.
I'll think about it.

Anonymous said...

I hang out under the bridge. It's quiet there and they can't find me.

Where do you hang out, Brandon?

Charlene said...

Well, before this whole thing got started I used to hang out at a bar called Mac's. Me and some co-workers from the factory would go there after the day was through for some beers and a few cigarettes. It could get pretty noisy since a lot of people hung out there after the work day was over, but it was full of good energy.

-Brandon

Nevin said...

Good energy is important. There's a lot of good energy in a peaceful forest. Have you tried that yet? Perhaps it would help.

Charlene said...

Yeah I'll probably be in the forests soon enough, with all these Institute soldiers and Suri after us. Plenty of time to find a peaceful meadow out there.

-Brandon

Maxwell said...

Brandon - want some bombs? Then you get chased. You blow them up. You get caught and go to prison. You blow them up. You want to get rid of major? You blow him up.

Lot's of bombs. Cheap.

Fluffy said...

Meow.

Purr, purr, purr, purr.

Charlene said...

I'll have to pass on the bombs, there's been enough shooting and destruction as it is.
Didn't know there was a cat here.

-Brandon

Kalila said...

It's not me, I swear!

Ricky said...

Why would anyone mistake you for a cat, Kalila?

Kalila said...

Never mind, Ricky. Let's keep talking to Brandon.

Vic said...

So, Brandon...do you go lurking around by night? That's what I like to do. It's very effective.

Charlene said...

No, I'm not much of a lurker. Most of my travel is done by day, unless we're driving somewhere by car.

Ms. Fettleston said...

Dear Mr. Brandon,

How lovely to meet you, dear. I've often seen you, but we've never spoken. I'm very happy for the chance to make your aquaintance.

I do have a question, dear. Must you run? Perhaps you could find a nice cottage somewhere, where they couldn't locate you. It must be so tiring always being on the run.

Separate rooms, of course, Mr. Brandon. One must observe the proprieties.

I hope you have a lovely day today. If you must run, Mr. Brandon, perhaps you could run in a place with many tourist attractions? Then you could visit the museums and enrich your mind while you were evading the police. Just a thought, dear.

Sincerely,

Ms. Fettleston

Charlene said...

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind.
And I couldn't find a cottage to settle down in, I'd hate the seclusion from the rest of the world. But no matter what we do, Suri or the soldiers always find us. I don't know how, but they do.

-Brandon

Ms. Fettleston said...

Dear Mr. Brandon,

How do you think they locate you, dear? If you could figure that out, perhaps you could evade them.

Do you think that nice young lady, Tanessa, is telling them, dear?

Sincerely,

Ms. Fettleston

Anonymous said...

What do you look like, Brandon?

Charlene said...

Naw, Tanessa's not telling, its more important for her to get away from them more than it is for me, since its her they're really after.

Anonymous,
I haven't seen a mirror today but, I've currently got short black hair, a few inches from my head, and blue eyes. People say I'm pretty muscular, a medium between lean muscle and bulky muscle but I don't know how much of that remained after my stay in jail. My mother says I've got a prominent jawline, one girl I knew once stated I had a chiseled face but you know how girls who want you can be.
I'm about 5'8" not sure how much I weigh now, not that its important to know for me.

-Brandon

Ginger said...

Hello, Brandon. You have a very interesting story.

I am wondering a few things. Is it possible that some kind of homing device is hidden in that artificial leg they gave you? Could that be how they track you down all the time?

How did you try to over throw the mayor? Did you try to kidnap him, or have a group storm the building, or what?

Who's Jasmine?

What is your plan for dealing with Tanessa? Are you really going to turn her in? If so, how? She seems pretty tough.

I hope that isn't too many questions.

Anonymous said...

Who is Marco?

Charlene said...

Ginger, in my leg? God I hope not, I can't just rip this thing off.
Marco and I planned a two man mission to kidnap the Mayor, after that we would meet up with the others and go from there, Marco never shared the whole plan.
As for Tanessa...I've been keeping in touch with the guy who wants her back, I was hoping to meet at a rendezvous point where we could either have men waiting or I guess I'd have to knock her unconscious myself...hadn't got that far.

Anonymous,
Marco used to work with me at the factory, I didn't know him much before the day he approached me after a complaint I'd been giving to some other employees about life in the city. We talked and after awhile he told me how he was planning this whole thing with the Mayor. We had been meeting up every few days at different locations as he planned his strategy.

-Brandon

Ginger said...

Did you have a girlfriend before all this? Anyone special that you miss?

Where do you hide? What do you eat? How do you get by from day to day? It sounds like Marco and Tanessa are part of a fairly well-organized underground.

Charlene said...

No, I had no girlfriend, it'd been a year since my last girlfriend, I didn't have time for that too much in Esquin.
I do miss my parents from time to time, but I don't speak with them on a regular enough basis for anything to have changed. I do hope they haven't heard about what I tried to do though.

As for living on the run. Tanessa and I try to stay under the Institute's radar, only going into the city when we need to. Mostly we hit small towns and we manage to spend the night at small motels. Though that might be about to change to sleeping in cars and outside. As for money, when my benefactor got me out of jail he gave me a LOT of money, I've been using it for food and shelter.
I don't know who he is, but he's very well off.

-Brandon

Ginger said...

Hmmm... curiouser and curiouser, as Alice in Wonderland would say. Keep us posted, Brandon! It sounds like your situation is just getting started, the tip of the iceberg, so to speak!

I think I'm going to take a nice walk on the beach and enjoy my BORING life!!!

Ricky said...

It must've been a pretty bad government that you were willing to take those kinds of risks. I take it you weren't living in a democracy?

Charlene said...

They say its a democracy but I don't think so. Our voting doesn't mean much nowadays. It's the Mayors who control things, and the Institute who controls them, more or less, I don't think the Institute really cares what the Mayors do in their cities.

-Brandon

Mira said...

Hey Brandon,

thanks so much for doing this! I have a question for you - what would your life be like if you were not on the run? What would you be doing right now?

Charlene said...

Well, I don't know, if I'd never agreed to help Marco then I'd still be working hard in Esquin. I probably would have still decided to help Marco, and from there if things went as he planned he'd be running the city and I'd probably be in some position of power where we could both change things for the better in the city.
Yeah, if I wasn't on the run things would've been much better.

-Brandon

Mira said...

Position of power? That's cool. What position would you have wanted? What changes would you make? I'm always interested in politics.....if you took over as Major would you try to change the big system? Do you think the big system would have let you take over?

:-)

Charlene said...

In reality, I don't think we could have handled the big system, I don't think the big system would've even let us keep power for long...
I'd be his right hand, his adviser I guess, the title's not coming to me right now. But we'd start with tax reform and wages. If we cut out all the excess spending Esquin had done we could easily cut back taxes on everything and help the workers. Then, we'd start taxing the richer folk and pull them outta all these loopholes Esquin made to make their lives easier, bringing in more money to change things.
Marco said he had big plans for the general state of the city, but my attention's always been focused on helping the have-nots and putting the rich in their place.

-Brandon

Kalila said...

I really don't understand the human obsession with money, Brandon. Do your people not know that it's worthless? They use it to buy very frivolous things.

Charlene said...

Not all of us use it on frivolous things, a lot of us need it to live, to pay for a place to live and food to eat, to take care of our families and pay the bills.
Yeah, there is a lot of it that's unnecessary, but when you have the money for it...

-Brandon

Kalila said...

So where are you now? And where are you going? Maybe we could hide you in our studio.

Nevin said...

Let's disguise him, Kalila!

Kalila said...

What an excellent idea, Nevin!

How would you like to look, Brandon? Perhaps you'd like to be a sea monster? The Institute would never guess it was you.

Charlene said...

I don't know where I'm heading, everything's still up in the air for me. And all I can tell you is that I'm somewhere in Utah, the state, I figure since I've run into soldiers earlier anyway it wouldn't hurt to share.

Thanks guys, but we can't stay in one place for too long, I still have to hand her in.

-Brandon

Ricky said...

Brandon, be careful taking Kalila up on any of her offers to help. I don't doubt she's sincere, but weird things sometimes happen when she tries to help a guy out.

Charlene said...

Sounds a little like one of my past girlfriends.

-Brandon

Your Mother said...

Brandon, I think you should be a good boy, and turn yourself in.

Your Mother.

Scruffy said...

Woof, woof!

Bo said...

So...is Tanessa hot? It might be more fun to hide out with her at a fancy hotel somewhere that'll put her in the mood, if you know what I mean.

Ricky said...

Bo, sometimes a guy has other priorities, okay?

Bo said...

Yeah, Ricky. Human priorities. I don't get your species sometimes.

Charlene said...

She ah, she's not really my type, too moody, a little creepy at times, and too dangerous.
I'm not the type to take advantage of a woman, no matter how much I think she may deserve something.

-Brandon

Anonymous said...

Brandon - what did Tanessa do?

Charlene said...

She got in the way, she ruined Marco and my plans, and because the soldiers were after her, I took a shot meant for her in my leg, which is why I have a fake one.

-Brandon

Lazaro said...

I'll get rid of Tanessa for you. Where is she? I'm very good at hiding bodies.

Vic said...

Yeah, Brandon, you've got friends here. We'll take care this problem for you.

What's Tanessa's blood type?

Charlene said...

If you guys get rid of her, I'll never get my freedom.

-Brandon

Candy said...

Brandon, are you in the present or a future time? It does not sound like a modern Washington state.

I find it confusing to have Charlene speaking for you and you just signing it. For a while i thought your name must be Charlene Brandon.

Charlene said...

Charlene (the author) writes for me. And if that's not confusing enough for you, we're in two different times.

-Brandon

Ricky said...

You're brave to let your author write for you, Brandon. No telling what mine would do if I let her.

Kalila said...

I bet your author is your problem, Brandon. We should get rid of her.

Vic, Lazaro, you're going after the wrong person. Leave Tanessa alone and let's see what we can do about this author person.

bunnygirl said...

Kalila, no violence against authors, okay? You don't want to know what I'll do to you and your band if you go down that road.

Kalila said...

I'm not afraid of authors!

But okay. No mayhem against authors...for now. We have a gig later tonight, so we don't really have time for it, anyway.

Charlene said...

It's not so much my author's fault as it is the Institute, she's merely recording my life. I don't let her control me!

-Brandon

Flower said...

Do you feel that someone else is controlling you?

Doesn't it bug you being on the run with someone you don't even like much?

Would it be better if you all split up so the soldiers wouldn't be able to track you?

Charlene said...

Flower,
No not really, I feel like I'm in charge of myself.
Yeah, it bugs me a lot that I'm on the run with Tanessa, but turning her in is the only way I'll get my freedom, so I'm forced to stick with her. If we split up, there's nothing saying I'll be able to find her again for my benefactor.

-Brandon

Ginger said...

Brandon, what if the benefactor is the bad guy and Tanessa is really the hero in this? How do you know you're on the right side? How do you know they'll not put in jail again after you turn her in?

Charlene said...

Ginger,
I honestly don't, I don't know. All I know is this guy's the reason I'm not in jail right now, and the reason I have a leg to stand on (no pun intended).
I'm just trusting my instincts right now, and my instincts are to not bring down any more trouble for myself and just do what I'm asked to do in exchange for my life.

-Brandon

Ginger said...

It sounds like a horrible situation, Brandon.
I have a spare room above my shop, if you ever want to crash here. It's probably the last place they'd look for you, if you could find a way to get here. You could blend in with the tourists, and just hang out by the beach.

Best of luck to you!

Charlene said...

Thanks, but the longer I rest somewhere, the more dangerous it gets. I'll have to pass.

-Brandon

Anonymous said...

What does Tanessa look like? Is she hot?

Charlene said...

Well...she's brown-skinned, a medium between light brown and cinnamon, got long red hair and rounded, soft facial features. She's I guess around 5'3 or 5'6 I'm not sure, she's got a pretty nice shape underneath the black and red and chained and buckled outfit she wears. Oh yeah, and some pretty eerie hazel eyes.

But you know, not my type. If she wasn't such a cold hearted woman maybe she'd be interesting to me.

-Brandon

Anonymous said...

Who needs a heart? Sounds hot to me.

Anonymous said...

Can I come with you? I've got people after me, too.

Charlene said...

You can only come if you want to deal with an emotionless, selfish woman, a relentless bounty hunter, and the army after you 24/7.
But if you're willing, we could switch places.

-Brandon

Anonymous said...

Gee, you make it sound really good.

Maybe not...

Good luck, though.

Bo said...

Tanessa sounds great, Brandon. Band's on break right now, but maybe after the show...

Charlene said...

She'd try and kill you for your advances, she's killed men before, trust me, she's not worth the headache.

-Brandon

Ginger said...

Bo's not a man, Brandon. He's an incubus. He can handle her, if anyone can.

Mira said...

I'd like to thank Brandon for taking the time away from his chase to let us get to know him. Very interesting, Brandon - thank you so much!

Given his circumstances, it may not be a surprise that Brandon has show an interest in learning more about Destiny.

Destiny's author could you contact me when you have a moment?

Thanks!
