Social Weekday: Happy Mardi Gras!

As I mentioned on Sunday, today is Mardi Gras Day – the pinnacle of the Big Easy's festive, pre-Lent season – a day filled with music, mirth, masquerades, and madness.

I thought it might be fun if we all headed down to New Orleans – for a Mardi Gras celebration of our own. I've brought enough king cake for everyone. So, who's joining me in the French Quarter? I'll be the one wearing the sorceress get-up and shouting, “Happy Mardi Gras!” at the top of my lungs!

Social Weekday: St. Patrick's Day!

You might not know this, but today is St. Patrick's Day – a day to celebrate all things green, Irish, and alcoholic – from shamrocks to leprechauns to whiskey.

All around the world – this world anyway – people honor March 17th with parades, pub crawls, and other shenanigans. Why, in Chicago, they even dye the river green!

So, how do you celebrate this rowdy holiday? Do you have any favorite memories? And, if you've never honored St. Patrick's Day before – or even heard of it, for that matter – what would you do if you had the day off and could party in any way imaginable?

Authors and characters are all welcome to share their experiences and fantasies.

Oh, and before I forget, HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

Social Weekday: Winter Getaway

This winter has been unseasonably cold throughout the United States. Even the Florida Keys aren't as warm as they usually are. And whether you live in this world or another time and space altogether, you might be feeling the winter doldrums, too.

If so, it might be fun to chase away the cold with a winter getaway – perhaps to some place warm, lush, and tropical... perhaps an island paradise like St. Lucia in the Caribbean. There, we can frolic in the water, have a picnic, maybe even build a sandcastle.

So, pack your bags, leave your weapons behind, and let's enjoy some sun, sand, and relaxation together! Authors and characters are all welcome to join in the fun – just don't forget your sunscreen. And, if you're a creature of the night, never fear – the party will still be going well after the sun sets.

Social Weekday: New Year’s Eve

Another year is almost gone, and a new one is upon us. Yikes!

But, before we start fretting about the speediness of time, let’s remember that New Year’s Eve is a day of contemplation as well as celebration. A day to remember the ups and downs of the previous 364 days – and, even better, a day to pop the champagne, watch some fireworks, kiss your favorite person (or creature), and welcome the next 52 weeks, which, for many, represent a fresh start – and the promise of possibility.

So, let’s hear it for the possibilities!

In celebration of 2010 (or whatever year you’re celebrating in your given world), let’s have a New Year’s Eve bash that can’t be beat! Lots of vittles, libations, party favors, and merriment for everyone! And, in true CIC fashion, we're starting the party a day early – which means we'll have even more time for frivolity.

Just don’t forget to share your resolutions (and wishes) for the coming 12 months, and remember to have a...

Social Weekday: Happy Thanksgiving!

Although not everyone here recognizes Thanksgiving – officially, an American holiday that stretches back to the Pilgrim days – I thought it might be pleasant to come together for a celebration of our own. After all, we don’t really need to use an official holiday as an excuse to be merry, eat yummy treats, and show gratitude for all the people, creatures, places, and things that we hold dear.

So, pass around the turkey and stuffing – or whatever delicacies you treasure – and let’s have a party!

As always, all are welcome – including busy authors and sun-challenged characters alike!
