Social Weekday: St. Patrick's Day!

You might not know this, but today is St. Patrick's Day – a day to celebrate all things green, Irish, and alcoholic – from shamrocks to leprechauns to whiskey.

All around the world – this world anyway – people honor March 17th with parades, pub crawls, and other shenanigans. Why, in Chicago, they even dye the river green!

So, how do you celebrate this rowdy holiday? Do you have any favorite memories? And, if you've never honored St. Patrick's Day before – or even heard of it, for that matter – what would you do if you had the day off and could party in any way imaginable?

Authors and characters are all welcome to share their experiences and fantasies.

Oh, and before I forget, HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

Down in Ruby Hollow, we celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a vengeance. Any ol' excuse to partake of the libations in our fourth-level bar.

Course, it's a little early to partake of said libations... right, honey?

Uh, honey?

Drat. He wandered off again. The drinking holidays have that affect on him.

Heavens, I was positively squirming to tell all the exciting things that have happened in our story this week. My author had a burst of creativity.

What would I do if I could celebrate a holiday? Dancing and music would certainly be a part, and races. We have alcoholic beverages, one a sweet drink called limn which can be watered down for children, and then velasz, made from white peaches and similar to what you call "brandy." It's quite useful for medicinal purposes, and for keeping one warm on a bitter night.

I never could understand the hamenfolk's fascination with the stuff until the night Faldur and I spent in the forest.

I should never have started you on the stuff.

Nothing dishonorable happened, I would have you all know. But it does seem to have a curative effect on a hawin's nerves.

You seem to use it liberally, as need requires.

I was wounded and in pain. At least I was alive, due to your bravery. I haven't forgotten that.

We love a party.

As my old Grandfather laid in several barrels of good Irish whiskey to mark the occasion of Jason's birth, I imagine we'll be starting early here.

Marc? Your dad's looking for you.

Blast! He'll be giving me work next. Cover for me, cuz.

I usually favor Scotch whiskey, myself. Single malt. But for this occasion, Jameson's will do.

St Patrick's Day is a good day to find an Irish girl to be with.

Then again, what day isn't?

I'm with you there, Bo. I love a pretty redhead.

Any time of the year, in fact.

Oh, Marenya, now I feel guilty that I didn't put up a "What's Happening Now?" this week. Well, you can always share all the juicy story bits (on your author's behalf) next Wednesday.

After all, it's St. Patty's Day, and I couldn't very well ignore it, could I?

Since I'm unlikely to do much more before next Wednesday, Marenya can wait, Laura. Besides, I think she and Faldur have taken a few more medicinal nips. I can't find them anywhere.

Laura Martone said...

Yeah, Christine, I know what you mean. I lose my characters all the time... just look at Jesse this morning.

Hey, I'm a redhead now! I tried to dye my hair a lighter shade of blonde on Monday and it came out the color of a creamsicle. Just in time for St. Patrick's Day!

Laura Martone said...

That's terrific, Christine! I plan to dye my hair red, too - though given the fact that I have brown hair, it'll probably just turn it auburn. ;-)

P.S. Now, Bo will find you even more enticing!

That's not saying much, Laura.
