Panic! Emergency! Fight of Flight!
This isn't ordinary fear. Perhaps it's an irrational, phobic reaction to something you know isn't really so terrible. Or maybe it's a conditioned response to a call to arms.
What kinds of things or situations make you feel alarmed?
Characters only, please.

I get alarmed when I feel the enemy coming. It makes sort of a weird buzzing in my teeth. Then my stomach starts flipping and my heart beats faster. It's tough to control.
And not it's even harder because I know my cousins will die with me if something happens. So I have a lot of responsibility to stay alive.
But sometimes I just get alarmed at regular stuff, like hearing people think about unresolved arguments. They shout in their heads and while I don't get scared, exactly, it makes it hard to relax.
You know, the point of the Covenant is that we try to keep you alive, not the other way around, mate.
Yeah, but it does rather work us over when Aidan's in danger. For those of you who don't know: the Covenant compels us to be near Aidan, to protect him. If he's not nearby I get anxious and jittery. I'm not usually what you'd call a Type A sort, but it's not best to stand between us and him when something's threatening him.
eeeek!!!
The band does something nearly every day that sends me into a panic, usually because I'm worried that at least one of us will get arrested.
It's okay, Ricky. If you go to jail, we'll get you out again.
Heh. Nothing's an emergency for me.
Bo, you've been beaten up in parking lots, chased by jealous husbands and knife-wielding girlfriends, thrown off a train and banned from the zoo. What do you mean nothing's an emergency?
Well, here I still am. What does that tell you?
Well, I'm not afraid of anything.
Kalila, you panicked on the tour bus when Ricky made you get out of your bottle and take on a mortal form, and then the bus hit a pothole. You thought we were going to wreck and you were going to die.
That wasn't panic. I was just startled. Really, Nevin.
I get anxious when my family is in danger. A gun in my hand usually calms me down.
Ah gee Kae, that's so...sweet. In a disturbed sort of way.
You didn't think it was so disturbed up on the roof the other night.
Ricky panics when I don't hide the bodies well enough.
Uh...that's true, Lazaro. Must we talk about it out here in public, though?
Never panic. Cool, calm, collected. Get even, intead.
Boom!!
Call to arms...
I've responded to calls to arms for centuries, but no longer. Now, my sword burns when I hear Grace cry for help. That's my call to arms.

Hi
I don't know if I've felt this.
Shadow
It's not so much a call as a whisper. But when I hear it, my whole night turns electric. I commit to serve and protect and suddenly I'm surrounded by a cloud of nanites that bond together and form armor around me, provide me with weapons and equipment at need. There's a charge running through my whole body when it happens, when I feel them around me. The things I can then do. The feeling of rescuing a citizen in need or stopping a crime in progress. It's indescribable; that's why so many people don't understand it.
But I live for it.

Hi Shadow.
Be glad you haven't felt it.
Hi Aidan
Okay. Except..
are you still going to teach me to fight?
Shadow
Fire!!!!!
Standing on a subway station in London, it always terrified me when I heard the rumble of an incoming train, then the gust of air before the monster burst out of the tunnel. I'd feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck, the skin over my face grow tight and my feet become rooted to the platform.I wanted to join in with the scream of the train and had to clamp my mouth shut so as not to. I hated that tube so much I walked miles to avoid it.
We'll teach you some moves, bro. I'm pretty open this week, actually.
Dark.
Everything I feel is so much worse when it's dark.
I watch the darkness deepen and creep in from the edges - I feel in rolling behind me. I thought it was a presence - for a long time - I tried to catch it out when I turned. Then I realised I never saw it when I turned because it wasn't behind me - it lurks inside.
Hi Aidan
cool!!
Shadow
Hi Candy Hi Flower
Shadow
You sure your mum will be cool with some strangers coming to pick you up and teach you to fight, Shadow?
Oh Jase, quit being such a wannabe parent. Besides, I can make it all right with her. I've only just learned to make you guys think what I want but I've been doing to humans since I was a kid.
And you fail to see the irony in that?
He's got a point, mate. There's a fair bit of irony.
Yeah, but the difference is we're OKAY. Sheesh. We're not going to let anything happen to Shadow. He'll be safer with us than he is at school.
Hi Aidan,
Okay, I'm ready.
I didn't ask my Mom. Don't need to.
Shadow
Right then, on our way.
Hi Marc
Cool!
Shadow
Hey, Guys, be careful what you do with Shadow and be sure to get him home without his Mum finding out. Remember when i took him home after drinking those beers? His Mum was a force to be reckoned with I can tell you. And the way she looked at me. Now that created alarm!
Calm down. It's not the end of the world.
Eat your vegetables.
I love vegetables! Thanks, Mom!
Can we talk about real alarms here, like the smoke alarm Kalila set off at the hotel with her shape-shifting?
Not if you want to see tomorrow, Nevin.
We got Shadow here with us and everything's fine, except for Aidan flipping-- you all right, Shadow? Shadow?
They're both laying on the sand laughing from trying to make us believe Shadow was hurt. He could be a good little fighter with the right training. Coordinated, the kid is.
How about we try letting him shoot your old bow into the ocean, Aidan? Might be safer for you both. It certainly would safe for the fish--oohph!
I could teach street fighting. I'm not all that big but quick as a cat. I get alarmed when the others catch me doing something not considered tough enough for a warlord- then i have to do something really daring or mean to keep their respect. Keeps me on edge all the time.
It was sure cool to be with you guys, weirdness and all, so I didn't have to worry about any of that crap.
Hi Marc, Aidan, Jason
That was fun! We totally had you fooled! Ha ha!
Let's do that again! That was totally cool.
Thanks guys.
Shadow
It was fun. Anytime.
Yeah, and next time I'll be there so I can teach you how to actually fight. I'm sure Aidan just taught you how to slap at him with open hands.
Meowww, Kae.
C'mere and I'll show you what we did...and I'll even give you ice for your eye and your ribs after.
