Quote of the Day: Groucho Marx

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.
~Groucho Marx

What are your principles? Do you stick by them, no matter what? Or, like Groucho, are you willing to change sometimes, if circumstances warrant?

Let's discuss!

This is a clever saying.

Now Grocho Marx, there was a man who followed his Destiny.

I don't have principles. But if I thought having a few might turn someone on, I'd give it a try.

Nevin said...

I believe principles are very important.

Vic said...

You would.

Look, no one's going to out of their way for me, so why should I for them? That's the only princple I need.

woof! woof!

Nevin said...

Nice doggy! Dogs always stick to their principles.

Woof!!!

Vic said...

Such as those principles are. Get a grip, Nevin.

My principle's name is Mr. Baldry. But he has two other viced-principles named Ms. Orsach and Mr. Templeton. They're a lot meanier. I think they are all on vacation, now, though, cause it's SUMMERTIME!!

Yes, one should stick to one's principles always. What is a person without honor, and how can one be honorable without first defining the principles upon which that honor depends?

What are we without our principles, but leaves tossed this way and that by the winds of circumstance and folly?

Faldur said...

I agree with Marenya, but the keyis to define your principles carefully, so as not to create a false paradox between following the letter of rule versus keeping the spirit of it.

A man need not be caught between a rock and a hard place, if he is watching where he steps.

Hi Faye,

My principal's name is Mrs. Sherwood.

I'm on summer vacation too.

How old are you?

I don't know what principles I have. What if I have the wrong principles? How do I know if I have the right principles? I need someone to tell me what my principles are, because otherwise, I could have the wrong ones, and I want the right ones, so that way I have the right principles and not the wrong ones.

Henny Penny, what principles should I have? I don't want to have the wrong ones, I want the right ones.

I'm honest. If I don't like someone I let them know. I won't even talk to someone if I don't like them. That means that people accuse me of being rude. Well, I am. so what?
And I never tell a lie. I never even lied about coming to America. Of course no one ever knew. I don't know what I would have said if Brian had become suspicious. If I told the truth he'd probably have thrown me out right then. Hmmm. Maybe it would have been best to lie in that case.
Sometimes I exaggerate a bit but that's different.

Faye said...

Yes, you are older than me. But we haven't been properly introduced! I'm Faye Lily McDermott and I'm staying with my Daddy on the lake. Is your name Shy or you are shy?

And if you are shy, then what makes you so shy?

Faye, Nixie

Hi Faye,

My name is Shadow. It's Brian, but I call myself Shadow.

I can't see myself in the mirror.

I have friends here. Candy. Aidan. Aidan and his brothers are taking me fishing.

Thank you.

I also love Groucho Marx.

Faye said...

*gasp* You can't see yourself in the mirror?? Why not? I love looking at myself in the mirror. Sometimes, I make faces at myself in the mirror when I am supposed to be washing my hands. Shhh, don't tell Daddy, ok?

Shadow is a neat nickname. It sounds like a superhero or something. My Daddy sometimes calls me Sprite.

Someone told me you guys are pretty cool. Maybe you won't want me here seeing as I'm just a ghetto kid and I guess you're a bunch of educated honkies. Oh, I don't speak. Haven't since I killed my mother and they sent me to this crappy place. I'm still warlord around here like I was on the streets, and I aim to keep it that way.

My name's Gabby, I'm fifteen, and I got no principles.
I hope you'll let me in to talk to you. It's tough being on guard all the time; everyone's in here for the worst stuff. But I'm boss!

Tell me if you don't want me. Most outsiders don't.

Hi Faye

Sprite is cute.

I don't know why I can't see myself.

Thanks.

Hi Gabby

I'm 15, too.

I didn't kill my mother though.

You're in jail?

Shadow

Lazaro said...

I only like educated people!

Ricky said...

Lazaro, uh...likes them for their brains, Gabby. He thinks they taste better. You're just as well off.

Katherine Cheshireson said...

Hi Gabby, nice to meet you! Don't worry about being surrounded by all the educated people, cause you're not the only "uneducated" one. I've been through my senior year three times. Finally quit a few weeks ago. They just didn't get along with me.

Congrats on going into 2nd grade, Faye! I remember 2nd grade. I had a really great teacher. She taught us to always be ourselves no matter what. Hmm, I wonder if she's still alive, or if she got killed for her principles. By the way, I used to have a principal too. He was really nice. I feel kind of bad. The first thing I did when I met him was to get blackmail on him. It came in handy though. It kept my friends and I out of trouble a lot.

Shadow, that's really cool that you can't see your reflection. Can other people see it? Or does it just not exist?

Now onto the topic of the day. I have my principles, such as always being true to who I am, and I'm so hardheaded that I wouldn't change most them. They already took everything I had because of them, so why should I change them now?

Candy said...

hey, Gabby, are you the kid your author was telling me about a while ago? Don't be afraid of these people, even Lazaro. They're all like my family now and they'll be like that to you, if you let them. Nevin is very kind, and Shadow's a poppit.Don't be tough with him now, he's scared enough already. I really like Bo but best if you stay away from him, he'd not be a good example for you. Ms. F. is neat too. Really, really kind. a bit soppy really but super nice. You'll meet her soon I expect. Do you good to meet some people outside that hellhole you're in!

Anonymous said...

Hi Candy

Thanks. What's a poppit?

Is it good?

Hi Katherine,

Other people can see me.

Thanks for saying it's cool.

You're nice.

How old are you?

Shadow, I didn't see that you replied. Sorry to take so long, (if you ever get this) to reply. I'm 19 now.
