Getting to Know You: Good Morning!

After a Valentine's weekend of lust, passion, or at least a chocolate or two, here it is Monday again and we're back to our usual routine.

What does that consist of for you? How do you usually start your day? Do you open your window and joyfully greet the sunrise?

Or do you try to catch a few more minutes of sleep, then reach for the coffee?

Once you're awake and out of bed, what happens next? How do you like to begin your day? (Nocturnal characters can tell us how they begin their night, if they prefer.)

When I wake up, I let my son come in our bed and we start the day by laughing and tickling. Then I make breakfast, clean up, and answer emails.

Now I begin each day wondering what's going to happen next. I get up around six and go for a walk to see what kind of a place I am in as I have usually arrived too late to see much the day before. If the motel has a free breakfast I have that, otherwise I eat one of the granola bars stashed in my backpack. Then I set off to find the places and people I read about before sleeping last night.
At last I'm getting braver and better at this, thank goodness!

That alarum wakes us at four thirty on the dot and if we aren't out of bed when the guard comes along he has this F....g big stick he whacks us with. Cold showers ( the water was hot the first few weeks then I guess the heater broke). Before breakfast we run around the playing field six times; more if you've done something bad. (I usually have to do more.} Then breakfast of watered down orange juice, oatmeal and bread. Each of us is given some stupid chore to do whether it needs doing or not. Today I have to scrub the front steps. Good chance to slop water on Warden's' shoes maybe?

Coffee and check the BlackBerry in the morning. If the band has forced me to go on tour with them and if I have time, I'll watch the news, too. Usually, though, I've got too many calls and emails to return.

And I like to check up on my manager in the morning. I have to make sure he's awake and doing his job.

What are you talking about, Kalila? Most mornings I don't see you at all, and when I do, you're only there to distract me.

I'm a get-up-and-go type person. I don't need an alarm to wake me. If the sun's up, so am I.

We have coffee and donuts at the office for the guys that stop there before going out on a job. I usually have to pick up a few at their homes - no transportation or not morning people so need a little extra attention.

My best mornings are spent on a job site; I hate being stuck in the office all day. Especially on nice, sunny days.

I beat up my alarm at least three times before Amy starts pushing me out of bed. Even when I'm sober. I used to not have to work until 3 pm; but Uncle Del - that's my boss - decided I should start earlier. Now I have to be there by 9a.

Most days I make it. Sometimes I'll walk, but usually Amy drives me. She's always out of bed before the alarm and working on her second cup before I drag myself to the kitchen.

Amy cooks breakfast - if I can stomach it - but there's always coffee, and time to nearly fall back to sleep. And aspirin chasers; I swear the girl spends my checks on buying stock the bottles are so big.

Ooo Ooo, I got this one.

Kaelin is up and in the weight room before the sun.

Jason sleeps late, the old lug.

Ditto Lucy.

I wake Aidan, who stumbles, yawning and naked, down the beach and wakes in the ocean whilst I, his ever-loving, patient cousin, fixes the Lord Seer Himself breakfast. And if you were wondering, yeah, he's crabby in the morning.

If I'm lucky my day starts at 4:30, and the first thing I do is grab a cig, and a cup of coffee. Then, I'll sit down and work on the most recent project for at least 2 hours or until I have 2 hand written pages done.

If my day's don't start at 4:30 I'm in a crappy mood all day, and it takes a whole lot longer to get everything running properly.

For me, it depends on the day of the week. Twice a week, I head immediately for the shower (lemon soap!), then get dressed and go to work, where no one better mess with me until I've had my first cup of coffee and checked my email.

Three times a week, I go for a 4 mile run, then do the above.

Saturday is long run day, and I head out for a 15-18 mile run, depending on the route I've selected the night before. By the time I get home, it's late in the morning and I usually have just enough time to get cleaned up before it's time to go have lunch with the hubby.

Sunday is my special writing morning. I so look forward to it! I sleep in, make a big pot of coffee, then park myself in my little writing corner and work on novels and short stories. It's a lovely way to start the day and I'd do it every day if I could!

Why don't you do it every day, author? You'd get a lot more work done on my story.

Because I'm not a djinn who can conjure things, Kalila. I need a job to get by in the world.

Kalila said...

Oh, yes. Money. That's no concern of mine, author. Sometimes I feel a little sorry for you humans. Then I get over it.

I want to know how Kalila starts her day.

And I don't swim naked, Marc. I wear your old board shorts.

Hello my name is Jewels and I begin my early morning by waking up and streching then I go to the kitchen and get some coffe and pour delicious milk inside with the coffe then I also mix it with sugar and then I drink it. Or sometimes a make a banana shake and then leave to school thats how I start my morning. And my favorite thing to do with coffe or banana shake is eating it with cookies . I love to go and shop at the mall with my family ,and talk to them and laugh or sometimes see a movie together and sometimes we go to church in the morning. And thats how I start my early morning.I love the early fresh morning and the cool windy air that blows in my face. I love to go with my friends also to the mall and like to be with them in the morning. I like it when the early sunrise shines on my window and thats how I start my early morning.
