What simple pleasures always make you smile?

Is there something that always brightens your day, no matter what? Tell us about it so we can share the happiness!
And speaking of happiness and little things that make you smile, there will be a Valentine exchange here at Come in Character next Saturday and Sunday. Start thinking now who you'd like to give a valentine to, and plan to stop in. Who knows - maybe someone will have left a valentine just for you!

Shooting my bow. Snowboarding.
Hanging out with my cousins.
Really, that's it.
the sound of rain on the roof when I'm snug in bed, the smell of coffee although I don't drink it, and the rich beery smell of a pub. Bluebells in the woods and the first flowers of spring. The sound of a cuckoo and distant church bells on a Sunday morning. The feel of a warm bath when I am cold.
So many favorite things, but top of the list would be someone wonderful whispering, "I love you" into my ear. It hasn't happened yet...
That all sounds really good, Candy.
I also like waking up with someone. I don't like to sleep alone so much. Usually that's Jason, but you know, he's not really what I have in mind...
A cozy lamp to curl up in, of course. Hobbies and pastimes come and go, but a home can be almost eternal if it doesn't get stolen by Dutch tea traders, flooded by a hotel sprinkler system, or damaged by a certain clumsy talent manager.
my WIP characters talk:
A: holding her in my arms.
T: feeling his hands on my skin.
F: being near them, knowing they are safe.
VF: money and power, cheating and getting away with it.
The Brothers: no waves, no tension, calm, predictability.
TFC: A cooked goose.
C: feeling the rhythm of the universe and the setting right of things.
P: Walking, feeling the simple pleasure of the elements and letting them guide me to God.
VT: my daughter.
VI: cutting. the sound of blood gushing through the opening.
RP: darkness, its secrets and powers
TF: closeness: the breath between God and man.
I am a huge fan of both raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.
The feeling I get when I've trickedone of the guards and everyone's chanting, "Ga -bee! Ga-bee!"
Fighting - I love fighting. Don't care how big or mean the other guy is.
Being with the Unicorn. But I can't let liking him soften my meaness.
I agree with you, Aidan. I love waking up next to my hubby, with my kitty curled on top of me (usually my lap or feet). It's a wonderfully reassuring feeling to be loved - even if it's just the three of us.
But I have so many other favorite things, it's hard to know where to start, which is why I blog about them all at Laura's Simple Pleasures.
Course, at this moment, one of my favorite things is the fact that the New Orleans Saints won decisively against the Indianapolis Colts in last night's Super Bowl! Geaux, Saints!
Oh, dear author, you don't know how long I've waited for my Saints to win a Super Bowl. I've been a fan from the beginning - and even though I live in Texas now, I'm still a fan!
Oh, wow, this is a historic moment. The Saints win a Super Bowl, and my father visits CIC for the first time.
Hi, Dad! How are you?
Dr Pepper and conversation hearts.
Humans have done SOME things right.
I'm good, Liv. A little under the weather today, but the doctor says it's just a cold. No need to worry.
And as for my favorite things... well, you're of course one of them. And there's nothing like spending the day fishing or dining out with my wife.
As our author said, there are just too many wonderful things about life to list them all here.
I know what you mean, Dad. And yet I can think of a few...
...my family, of course, and the place where I live. Every day, I wake happy on South Padre Island. The day just seems full of possibility. I can go for a swim in the gulf or stroll along the beach - and I never know what inspiration I'll find for my art... something else that I love dearly.
A job well done. Nothing makes me smile like that feeling of accomplishment. No matter if its restoring a house, being with my family, making my dad proud, or getting away with the goods, my money and my life.
Its all accomplishment. The only difference is the quality of the smile.
Most things make me smile, until they make me frown.
But my family makes me smile the most. And days I wake before the alarm and get to roll over for a bit longer against my husband's warmth.
My favourite thing is my candle but it's ever changing. I burn it all the time at the minute.
I don't do much smiling, I think my bottom lip is getting stuck vaguely turned out.
I'm going to play my flute at the Remembrance Service if I can remember how - like riding a bike, right?
Oh, okay. Jason says I have to add "running around half-naked all the time" to my list.
Sheesh, we live on the beach. You expect me to wear a suit and tie every day?
The only time you wore a suit and tie was the time you got in trouble with Lord Prince Arond. And you borrowed it from me.
I don't think the suit did much to smooth the LP's ruffled feathers, mate.
See? Clothes are overrated.
Aidan, that's what my husband says, too. I, for one, am pretty fond of clothing. ;-)
Laura, You know what I like even better than me not wearing clothes? Girls not wearing clothes. ;)
Aidan! She's a married woman.
Oh. Yeah. Sorry, Laura.
I like flirting, too. Not a lot of that to do with my family hanging around all the time.
No worries, Aidan. I'm a big flirter, too - and my hubby knows it. ;-)
I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I'd like to add that I, too, enjoy being naked. Perhaps that's due to my upbringing - hippie parents in the woods of the Deep South. Hey, it gets hot down there!
And, of course, since it seems we're including people in our favorite things, I should say that I'm pretty fond of my boyfriend, Indigo, and my little brother, Jonathan. Mother Nature, too.
I'm flattered to be one of your favorite "things," Meg - and you know how I feel about you. :-) But if I admit to liking nudity, your dad might hunt me down and murder me.
Well, considering I'd run away from home when I met you on the road, it's probably a safe bet that he already wants to hunt you down and kill you.
Thanks, Meg. That makes me feel a whole lot better.
