Getting to Know You: Stress!

This past weekend, we discussed how we would handle being stuck in an elevator--a very stressful situation!

Today, let's discuss how you deal with stress in general. Do you hit something? Meditate? Go shopping? Eat junk food?

Whether it's the stress of our jobs, our relationships, or the various situations that come up in life, how do you handle stress?

When my life gets stressful, I like to play music or go for a walk in a peaceful place, like a forest. If I'm not near nature, a museum is often a nice substitute.

Anyone who wants to relieve a little stress with me is always welcome.

I destroy whatever is making me feel stressed. It's a very simple solution.

Bo said...

You do not, djinna. Quit bragging.

She's all bluff, folks. I hope you know that.

Come with me, Bo. Let's...talk.

Oh, dear. That looks like trouble. Never anger a djinn if you're trying to reduce the stress in your life!

I think I'm going to go for a walk now. Anyone care to join me?

I'll go with you, Nevin. The author's been stressing me out lately. It'll be nice to get away for a little bit.

Kaelin just gets really quiet.

Of course, he's pretty quiet anyway, so who would notice?

I could always start beating up my brother.

Aidan said...

That was Kaelin, btw. I made him move the mouse in the wrong direction.

snicker--hey! Cut it out! Go brood or something.

And jason just cleans his guns.

Brooding is better than throwing temper tantrums, like a certain Seer who shall remain nameless.

He's right though. Jason does clean his guns. Sometimes I wonder if he'll wear right through the barrel of one.

Chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.

Bubble baths. And going to the movies, where I can sit in a dark theatre and be completely caught up in something that is not my own life.

I couldn't agree with you more, Ginger. I also find that chocolate (especially the dark kind), bubble baths (with a glass of wine), and going to the movies (with my hubby) help to relieve stress... just thinking about such things calms me a little.

Of course, yoga helps, too. :-)

A dip in the Gulf of Mexico seems to help me relieve a bit of stress. Mojitos and a night alone with Michael are also quite helpful.

Well, you asked.

I am extremely stressed right now. I would like to scream, but must work instead.

If I had time, I'd exercise. That usually helps work out the tension.

When I worked in that bar in London I would often be stressed, then I would bang the pint mugs down in front of the customers with such a wallop the beer would shoot up and foam would fly everywhere. It made me feel better after I'd done a few of them.

Recently, when stressed, I crawl into bed and cry. It doesn't really help but I'm all alone and don't know what else to do. Actually, when desperate, I've been calling Mike. Such a weird guy. He makes me feel better though.

Me, when I'm pissed off, { that's stressed isn't it?} I pick a fight with anyone I can find. Otherwise I run, dodging traffic and stuff.

No traffic here and I can't fight so I get my drums and beat the crap out of of them.

I find that good music and single-malt scotch help my stress.

The inability to cope with physical or mental difficulties is a sign of weakness.

One must learn to submit the mind and body to the will. We are never the victims of trivial circumstance, unless we choose to succumb.

The strong shall overcome.

Olivia Harper said...

Er, thanks, Lord Synedd, for that compassionate nugget of advice. It's much appreciated... but, clearly, you don't have children.

Hmm, what do I do when I'm stressed?

I'm stressed a lot, depending on which book my author is working on at the time.

But when things are really out of control? I hide in closet and secretly drink straight from the Christian Brothers bottle. Then I can let myself cry, and maybe talk to my estranged brother or his girlfriend Tara. I really like Tara, but to hang out with her, I'd have to let my brother back into my life and . . .

Well, I guess I'm stressing now. I guess it's time to share some wine with a man and see what pops up.

Uh, I drink wine and I write. I put my characters through hell and resolve all the issues that are stressing me out.

Sometimes I clean and I write. All that scrubbing - or maybe its just the fumes from the chemicles - clears the head. Burns energy.

And if that doesn't work, there's always computer games: solataire, Mah Jong, Bejeweled, Monopoly. Blistful mindless activity.

And if that still doesn't work, I crawl into someone else's fantasy by starting a new book. Sometimes a whole new series.

Oh perfect word verif: tedayoff. Thats permission to take the day off and do nothing but veg in front of the TV, maybe put in Lord of the Rings again. The extended version of course, from first to last disc, with a bag of ruffles and ranch dip.
