Getting to Know You: Sports and Fitness!

We hope everyone had fun on this weekend's endurance hike!

Today, let's talk about what other kinds of fitness and sports activities we enjoy. Do you run, play tennis, ride horses, or dance?

Or do you prefer a comfy sofa, ESPN and a remote, so you can watch other people play sports?

Let's talk about the sports and fitness activities we like to participate in and/or watch! We define "sports" rather loosely here at CIC, so don't be shy!

I like indoor sports.

Ricky said...

Please, Bo. No one wants to hear about that.

Bo said...

I mean like weight-lifting. What did you think I was going to say?

Ricky said...

Okay, whatever.

I have a nice set of golf clubs, from when I first got into talent management and thought I was going to become rich. Rich men play golf, right?

Boy, was I deluded. I spent all my time working and ran through my trust fund so fast it made my head spin. No time for golf. The clubs are gathering dust in my closet.

Mostly fight practice and sharp shooting for me. It gives me an excuse to beat up Aidan when he's on my nerves.

Hardiharhar, Kae.

We do all the stuff humans do, I guess. I like to lift weights. I used to snowboard back when I lived in CO. I suck with a gun but I shoot my bow.

Surfing. That's all.

Michael and I enjoy swimming in the gulf. Hard to pass that kind of exercise up, when you live right on the beach. We take long walks along the coast, too... and I do yoga indoors.

Neither of us are into the weights thing - like Bo - though we do enjoy other indoor sports (wink, wink).

Morning, Liv! Did you have fun on your endurance hike this weekend? Jesse and I really wanted to go, but it's tough to leave the Hollow on a whim.

Jesse and I have always been pretty active in Ruby Hollow - hard not to be with all that's on offer down here. We're both getting up in age, but we still take time to swim in the underground lake, dance at the Friday night socials, and explore the surrounding cave system (on sanctioned hikes/climbs). We enjoy spending time in the yoga studio on the fifth floor - and though we don't play anymore, we like to watch the baseball and soccer games in the fifth-floor arena.

Hi, Mom! I'm glad to hear that you and Jesse are still in good shape. Keep it up!

I'm a walker...I love long walks and hikes. I try running, but even then, I look like I'm walking...I can't believe when I see my shadow and I'm like, "Seriously, that's how fast we're moving?"

Laura Martone said...

I'm with you, Anita. I like long walks and hikes. Swimming, yoga, and pilates are fun, too.

I try to jog during my walks, but I always end up hurting myself. Pulling something, twisting my ankle, stepping on a sharp stone wrong, etc. So, while I like expending bursts of energy by jogging on occasion, I try to avoid it whenever possible.

Hi, everyone! Indigo and I enjoyed our endurance hike with you...

Obviously, since we live on the road, we love to exercise. Walking is probably our favorite exercise, but we'll try anything, especially if it's free or near-free... like swimming in a creek or riding a wild horse bareback. Indigo's good at taming animals... he was just nervous to try with the bear this weekend. Could've been deadly for the rest of us if he hadn't been able to succeed in calming him. He didn't want to take that risk, you know.

We play soccer here although we have no rules and it usually turns into an all out battle. I'm tough and fast so can do a lot of damage without getting hurt myself.

Kids don't exercise for the sake of it, at least none of us ever would. Trying to get sleep is more important .

Laura Martone said...

Yeah, sleep's important. Wish I knew how to work that into my schedule a little more regularly.

I try to jog every once and a while, and I go camping about once a month. One year I was forced into doing drum corp. Not an experience I want to repeat personally.

Sorry I disappeared from the hike yesterday. I realized it was Charles' birthday and had to go celebrate with him.

I like to walk. Not in an organised kind of way, just going and looking and finding the way back.

Is setting things on fire considered a sport?

Ricky said...

I believe it's considered arson, Kalila.

Kalila said...

Leave it to humans to come up with a name for it.

Anyone want to join me for a game of arson?

Nutmeg Cross said...

How exactly is arson a sport, Kalila? It's not even exercise. Light a match and... WHOOSH! There goes the forest.

Doesn't seem too calorie-burnin' to me. But djinn probably have strange ideas about exercise, huh?

Kalila said...

Djinns don't use matches, Nutmeg. Conjuring fire can be quite draining, if the fire is large enough.

Ginger said...

I'm glad you didn't light our campfire this weekend, Kalila.

I'm not good at sports. I exercise because I have to, with all those carbs I end up eating. But I don't think aerobics is really a *sport*.

However, I am going to learn how to downhill ski. I've decided to stay at the lodge this winter. After all, it's free, and the tea room is closed for the season now.

There is a very nice ski instructor here named Klaus. He's going to teach me. Doesn't that sound nice?

While I'm here, I'm thinking I just might write a book.

Marc said...

I'll come, Kalila.

At my school we played grass hockey and I really loved that. I liked walking in the hills behind my aunt's house near San Francisco but it wasn't for fitness - just 'cause it was so peaceful and pretty. People seem to do an awful lot for fitness instead of enjoyment. My dad's exercise came from lifting a pint of ale each evening at the local pub.

Nutmeg Cross said...

Hey, Ginger, does that mean Indigo and I could stay at the lodge a spell? I read THE SHINING when I was younger... and ever since then, I've wanted to stay in a lodge in winter. Don't ask me why.

Nutmeg Cross said...

Oh, and Kalila, thanks for explaining your "arson" methods. That makes a lot of sense - now, I get why your brand of fire-making would feel like exercise.

I love soccer and aerobic and I feel comfort with this sport :)
