Two weeks ago, several characters offered a midweek update about their current lives – which, in turn, shed some light on their authors' current progress.
Now, it's time for another What's Happening Now? This is a chance for authors to share what's happening within their stories by speaking through their characters' unique voices.
So, let's hear it, characters. It's time to share your trials, your successes, your goals, whatever's on your mind at the moment – and hopefully, by revealing where you are in your story, you'll help inspire your authors to keep moving forward with theirs.
Remember, this is for characters only!

I am beginning to suspect that one of my closest friends is working for my enemies. We have been attacked on the road and I took our party into the forest, along only secret paths the Rangers know.
But it is getting dark and I can see shapes moving among the trees behind us. If we can only reach the clearing in time...
I don't like this place at all. I don't know what's going on, but Faldur is being very peculiar and insisting that we hurry.
He doesn't need to tell me. I am longing for rest and a warm fire.
I can see stars in the sky ahead of us. Thank Heaven, we've almost reached the end of the trees! This pine forest is so dense, it is like night in here, although the sun hasn't set quite yet.
What was that...?
We're packing up to head out on a mission. Aidan's in a fit because of something with his bow, which means he's probably Seen something and it's bothering him. Kaelin's gone all silent the way he does. Jason's compulsively cleaning every gun in the house.
Good times.
Marenya, your experience sounds very familiar. There have been times on the road when Indigo has insisted that we hurry through an area, and he doesn't always tell me why. Perhaps he just doesn't want me to worry, but I don't like being kept in the dark. I might be young, but I'm not a baby!
Of course, you're not a baby, Meg. I just don't want you to worry when you don't have to.
Being on the road, just the two of us, isn't easy. You know that. But I swore to protect you - and I always will.
That's sweet, Indy - really it is. But none of it matters anyway - since we're simply living in our author's head at the moment.
Ahem.
Just relax, Meg. Take a deep breath and meditate on the forest around us.
We'll come to life eventually - our author is just busy traveling now, and another story (that one about Ruby Hollow) has to come first anyway. After all, it's closer to being finished than ours is.
True enough. Hey, and look at this way - maybe after all her traveling, she'll decide to send us to the Florida Keys while we're on the road. I've always wanted to go there.
See? The meditation is helping already.
Oh, shut up, you... and pass the granola, please.
One time Aidan led us in a merry chase in the jungles of the Philippines. Jason was a bit miffed over all that, as I recall.
I hate the fucking jungle.
And Aidan nearly got himself killed (and you and I alongside him).
WHERE ARE MY BROADHEADS?? I have to make more arrows on the plane. Can you guys focus on the mission, please?
Yes, My Lord Seer, we'll focus. And your broadheads are right here, my lord.
(Is he not adorable when he tries to boss us around?)
A: I'm about to shape shift.
Author: Good thing, A. Since I haven't done anything in the last two weeks.
Wow, have I ever been busy! I wandered all over Victoria going to the places my Great Aunt wrote about. But a lot has changed. Quiet streets once bordered by old Victorians have changed to busy ones lined with huge apartment buildings. I'd close my eyes and imagine what my Aunt once saw, then open them to completely different sights. I did find a few things though, and it was as though she cheered me on with each discovery. It felt like I was living in two different times at once. When I finally got back to the hotel I was beat and while I soaked in the tub someone sent up a whole big dinner = all things I like too! Weird, but I'm not complaining!
Hey, Kaelin, maybe you could check on Candy. People are sending her things and it's freaking me out a little bit.
I wrote a song for my cousin Pelwyn's wedding. Would you care to hear it?
Oh no, Gorrith! Don't.
You thought it amusing, Renya.
Yes, but that was in our family circle.
Oh, I don't mind. *sigh* Better here than at the ceremony.
Aidan is adorable at all times, Marc.
Unfortunately for the female population.
Aden Fath, Candy! For a moment I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant that you were beaten at your hotel.
I'm so relieved that isn't the case.
Oh, I'm all ears, Gorrith! I can even accompany you on the piano.
See, ladies! Someone here appreciates my talent.
(What's a piano?)
Are you ready?
Very well.
We're going to Tor Aden
It grieves my heart to tell
That Melbrinor put Pelwyn
Underneath his spell
She's flying to be married
Now hear the wedding bells
For Melbrinor and Pelwyn
Are to be wed Pell-Mell!
Hahaha!
Oh, wait... that was meant to be funny, right?
P.S. A piano is a large, not-so-portable musical instrument. Too hard to explain here. You'll just have to experience it for yourself, Gorrith!
What's happening? Was someone strangling a cat in here?
Oh, I see that Gorrith has been entertaining you.
Yes, Olivia. It was meant to be humorous.
Just wait until I'm Queen, little brother.
When you are Queen, you shall need teasing more than ever.
Marenya,
Adorable isn't quite the look I'm going for but it's been awhile since any of the female population noticed me, so thanks.
Do you not like being adored, Aidan?
Finally got some action; my knees were freezing standing against that cabin. Lousy, drunken sot tried to kill me - I think. Didn't seem to put much effort into it and his spells were easily broken.
Worries me. Why would he want me to chase him.
And my familiar - a crow named Malchi - also tried to kill me. Well, I'm sure not on purpose, his night vision isn't very good at all. Still, I singed his tailfeathers for not warning me of the cart.
I DID NOT TRY TO KILL YOU.
I just, didn't see the cart. Jeez, would ya lay off?
And maybe you're a better magacian than you think.
Wow, there seems to be a lot of tension in this room. Makes me glad that my giggles didn't offend you, Pelwyn.
Oh, and may I say... congratulations on your impending marriage! May you have a long, happy, and fulfilling one.
I like being adored by you, Marenya.
Oh. Hi Faldur. You sure know how to sneak up on a guy.
See what I mean? Tension.
Everyone needs to take one deep breath... including you, dear Aidan.
Aden Fath, Aidan.
I wasn't "sneaking up" purposefully, but I am afraid I have gotten into the habit of moving quietly. As you know, one's life often depends on it.
May Heaven be with you in the challenge that awaits you.
My sword and bow are at your disposal, if you should need them. I doubt that you will, with such excellent companions beside you already.
Thank you very much, Olivia. I'm sure my marriage to Prince Melbrinor will be long and happy, with Faldur to take me safely there.
I understand that authors require tension for their manuscripts. I would prefer otherwise, I'm sure.
I do believe it is the tendency of all men to want to be adored, is it not? As much as we want to be.
Though not put on a pedestal to be admired from a distance. I seem to be in no danger of that!
(I wonder if Aidan really wants to be adored up close? I would certainly not be opposed to such an attempt. It opens many interesting possibilites, does it not?)
I'm sure he'd like to be adored from any distance and in any way you see fit, Marenya.
And he's now bright red. Not an easy accomplishment. Well done!
You make a good team, Marc and Marenya.
Marenya, well, hell. I have no idea what to say. I'm flattered and. Well. Thanks. and you know. Likewise.
Faldur, you and I should shoot sometime, huh? Maybe a hunt or something. Not often I find another archer around and I bet you're good.
Thank you, Adian. I am not as skilled with a bow as my Lieutenant, Harth. But I flatter myself that I am proficient enough with a sword.
I am always ready for practice, however. I'd be happy to take you up on the offer any time.
If only I could get Faldur to turn that color, Aidan. He seems impervious to anything I say or do.
I think he tries too hard to appear that way, Marenya. Keep flirting with Aidan and his shell might crack.
Oh, is that the cause for this sudden fascination in the Lord Seer? I see all now.
(rolls eyes)
This is why I prefer the company of men. Let's get in some target practice, shall we, Aidan?
Yeah, Faldur. I got all these broadheads made and the mission was a false alarm. Might as well put them in some targets.
(Maybe the pretty girls will watch, huh?)
No worries, Faldur. I'll just come along too and keep my baby cousin in line.
Oh. Did I say that out loud, Lord Seer? Sorry.
Ooh, can I join in the fun? My dad taught me archery when I was younger, and I've always loved it, but I rarely get a chance for target practice these days.
I've been thinking of getting us a bow and some arrows. Might help our hunting efforts.
