Getting to Know You: Career Change!
We all have very important jobs or roles we play in life. But is your current career the one you really want? Do you dream of other offers and bigger things?
If you could be doing something else, what would it be? If you love your job but were forced to give it up, what would you choose instead?
My only job has been as a barmaid and that was OK. I guess, like Nevin, I'd like to sell my paintings.Maybe Aidan could represent me too! Wouldn't that be really cool! What country would your gallery be in?
Candy, I don't know, I guess I always envisioned London cuz I went to school at Cambridge. And I'm a citizen - I mean, legally, there. (I have papers for lots of countries, you know, but these I actually got through the British Government).
Or maybe Boulder. That's an artsy town. And I could ride pretty often in the winter. That'd be cool.
Nevin, you and I often have so much in common - a passion for music and art at the top of the list - and I, too, would be sad if I couldn't continue on my current path. I love making a living from my art (watercolors are fun, too!) - and playing piano on the side.
I'm not sure what I'd do if I had to give it up - maybe run an inn on the north end of South Padre? Course, I'd have to consult the hubby first.
Yeah, but, Michael, Aidan seems to be focused on a more four-season kind of place. Boulder is gorgeous, but it's a lot colder than South Padre, which almost always has a tropical isle feel.
But, as Michael said, Aidan, you (and Candy, too) are welcome to hang your paintings in my gallery. I always enjoying helping friends spread their creations to others.
I thought I'd end my days running the remodeling company my dad and uncle started. I started working there when I was old enough to swing a hammer, and took it over when my dad retired. I was looking forward to working with my own son.
Then I got into trouble, lost the business, and when I got out of prison I became a roofer. At least its working on houses.
That other spot of trouble keeps pulling me back, though, so my cover's about to be blown as a roof man. Knew it wouldn't last, but, I thought it'd be longer . .
But I'd go back to remodeling homes in a heart beat if they'd let me.
Oh, everyone would be too scared of us to attack us. We'd just gallop around and look fierce. Then in the evening they would bring me chocolate ice cream sundaes for dinner with extra chocolate and marshmallows. I've never had one but saw an ad for when I looked through a ice cream store window once.
I thought of doing that yesterday, Anon 10:27 - giving up my writing and going to medical school... of course, that didn't stem from any deep-seated malaise... it occurred to me after my hubby went to the doctor for an ear infection, and the doctor charged him $150 for seven minutes' worth of attention. At those prices, it can't take long to pay off school loans.
Amy, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate what you said. I, too, found my "career" late in life - if, that is, being a productive member of Ruby Hollow can be considered a career. I sure couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.
My only role is as Pelwyn's companion. I am dependent upon her father, so there isn't much else for me to do but try and make myself useful. Do I dream of bigger things? I should have to say not. I am not a big person. And to be a maid-in-waiting to the future queen is quite big enough of a role for me.
I'm not quite sure I want it, except that she insists she can't do without me.
I was promoted to Captain young, so I am content to fill these boots for now. One day perhaps I'll become a Marshall, but that day is a long time away.
Our people live six score years, so we take our time about living.
When I grow up I want to be a empolyee at a sports store because I love sports, all kinds of sports but if i had to pick a favorite sport I would play soccer . Also becuase I also like all kinds of sport items like shoes, balls, other uniforms, and stuff.I also like helping people out .
My name is Leo when I grow I want to be a pro soccer player because i love soccer i think is the best sport in the world i would lik to play soccer in Europe because the best teams are in Europe
My name is a Mike and when i grow up i wannna be a pro basketball playa or police officer because i captured a killer and i'm really good at basketball and if i mak it to the pros i wanna play for tha dallas mavs or boston celtics.

I think I would be very sad if I couldn't create music. Perhaps I would enjoy being a watercolor artist instead.
Phlebotomist. Absolutely.
I think I'd like to teach. You know, just a regular elementary school teacher. I like kids.
You already do teach, Kae.
Yeah, I teach demons to fight other demons. Not exactly heartwarming stuff.
Yeah, but you're GOOD at it.
I'd like to run an art gallery. Nevin, maybe in another life I can have your watercolor paintings in my gallery.

Hey, Aidan, you could just help Olivia run her art gallery. She has a small one on South Padre Island.
In fact, Nevin could put some of his watercolors there!

Um, Liv? What was that about running an inn? Were you serious?
Hypothetical, dear, just hypothetical.
Don't you have an appointment this afternoon?
S***, yeah. And I'm already late.
Gotta go, honey! We'll talk about that inn later. *kiss*

I found my career late in life, and I'm just happy to have a job. I wouldn't trade being a receptionist for anything else.
FLOWER
School isn't a career it's timewasting. I could leave in the summer now I'm sixteen but Unc Will is hoping I'll stay on. Whatever.
I don't have any paintings, but thanks. I'm no artist, just a collector.
And the demons would find me and probably mess the place up.
But I might come visit that gallery in South Padre sometime.
I've never thought much farther than the next day. Maybe I could be a General, leading a magnificent army of cavalrymen on white horses.
Blood shows up well on white, Gabby.
You're going to freak the kid, mate.
Sorry, Gabby.

Okay, give up art and go to medical school.

Sorry, Aidan, I got a little ahead of myself. Guess what I meant was... you're welcome to hang any paintings you represent in my gallery.
But, at the very least, you're always welcome to visit!

So, good for you!
