For many of us, today is Valentine's Day – a holiday that celebrates love, lust, passion, and, in some cases, flowers and chocolate. In honor of this popular holiday, I decided to take Betsy's advice and ask the following question of all authors and characters:Who is the one person you would die for, and why?
Of course, I realize that not everyone would go that far for someone else, so if that's the case with you, feel free to say so. Just don't be offended if the rest of us mock your lack of ardor!
(P.S. Thanks for the suggestion, Betsy!)

Hmmm, weighed it up and decided the kids need me to help them with their homework and fashion sense, so Dad might be on his own in a life-threatening situation. Would, of course, run into the burning building for my kids, or for that matter, anyone's kids. But don't know I could tackle a Huntsmen spider for anyone - they're so hairy! *shudders*
Kaelin. Not romantic but he's my brother. He needs more protection than he thinks.
Aidan
Aw Kae....
Shut it before I kick your ass. And don't try any of that voodoo mind control crap either.
Grace... Die for her or kill for her, your choice.
Certainly I would die for Susan. But I risk death every time the Nanites find me. It's pretty good armor, but you never know; there's always the risk. Things happen. (If you don't believe me, wait until you read the next episode!)
Ah, the Day of Valentines! That's quite the intriguing little local tradition, indeed. Would it be cheesy to say I'd give my life for the whole world? I mean, I really do love this little planet, and its intriguingly special species.
Plus, this Valentine Day thing is a real big night on my club calendar! The attached ones may be celebrating their involvement, but the unattached girls are looking for someone to celebrate on! Nothing wrong if that someone is me for a few of them, right?
Yeah, I'm with you, Charmaine. I love my husband dearly, and would sacrifice anything for him, but in a life-threatening crisis, I think my kids would have to come first. Sorry, honey.
Oh, Thassodar, it might be cheesy, but it's still appreciated.
Of course, your other comment - about your willingness to let unattached girls celebrate on you - almost negates such all-encompassing self-sacrifice. Almost. ;-)
As for me, that's not an easy question to answer. I'd die for Olivia - that's for sure - but I'd die for Jesse, too. Hard to choose between my daughter and my husband.
I don't see why we have to choose between those we love. If it came down to it, I'd die for my boyfriend, my father, and my little brother.
I just hope it doesn't come down to that.
Hey Jax,
I'm with you. Let's hit the clubs.
Demidemons are supposed to be immortal, but whoever made that rule hasn't met our little accident prone, foolhardy Aidan. Still. We've Sworn our Covenant to him so the deed is done.
And both my brother and I have killed for the lad. He just inspires it somehow.
You know I hate when you talk about the Covenant, Marc.
Sorry, mate, but we're a bit past pretending, yeah?
Personally, I think it's kinda sweet that Aidan and Kaelin would die for each other. What good little demidemon brothers!
But, what's this about voodoo? I didn't know you two practiced.
Hi Nutmeg,
It's what Kaelin calls my ken, back from before we knew what it was. I keep telling him it's not respectful. He's just mad cuz I can read his mind and he can't read mine.
Of course I'd die for him. Or kill for him. Whatever. (I did, once. Kill for him.)
He's my brother.
And you're mine. Even if you are a pain in the ass.
But I'm YOUR pain in the ass, huh?
Admit it. You'd be bored to death without me.
Time was, I would've died for Angelique, my wife. Now she's gone and I've Aidan to look after. Life could be worse. As he says, it could be boring. And safer. But where's the fun in that?
Jax, I'm in on that whole giving the ladies someone to celebrate on. After all, someone has to come along to keep Aidan out of trouble. And Marcus, I'm certain, will be wooing our dear Lucy.
I don't have anyone I'd die for. Makes me sad to know that. . I just wish I did! No one who'd die for me either.
OK guys, my car is parked out front, I'll adjust it so there's extra room for us all, I normally go two-seater. I usually kick it in the DFW area, but we can hit it anywhere. My secret's pretty much out with this crowd, anyway.
Maybe we can even party back at my place if it works out that way. Who's coming? (By the way, Devi, you're more than invited, assuming you aren't spending the evening with the family.)
Candy, I would die to protect you. I have sworn to protect the innocent citizens, and you are most certainly classified as an innocent.
Hey, I'll die for ya, Candy! Wait, which game? Cause most games you get bunches of lives, and I'm always racking up extra ones, so I'll be happy to give you one if it makes you feel better. :)
I'll protect you if you need, Candy.
Dude, we're so in. Jason, you have money, right?
Sigh. He's like the queen. Carries a wallet but nothing inside but lipstick.
Hey, at least we don't have to sit around and watch Marc and Lucy get all kissy face.
Point taken. Nice ride, Jax. We're up for anything as long as my brother and darling Lucy stay well away.
I wouldn't die for anyone.
Well, I would say my parents, but they died already. So I guess perhaps Micah, my foster father. On, I did just return from a mission to rescue Joel.
I didn't need rescuing! What is it with you Roni'im? First your parents, now you. If you have a crush on me, forget it, Abigail. I killed your sister and I would have killed you too if that interfering Abir hadn't gotten in the way.
No, it has nothing to do with romance. You are family, and I won't leave you to your own stupid choices.
I like my choices. LEAVE ME ALONE!
We were wiling to come and die for our daughter Keturah.
(posted from the afterlink)
Ah, they mean afterlife
What is it with you Roni'im? Have a martyr complex!
My parents showed more courage in that moment then you've shown your whole life!
Sorry, Abigail, I have to side with Joel on this one. I have two babysitters and it wears me out--oh, hi, Jase. Drink?
What are we talking about?
Nothing, Jase. Hey, I think one of those girls with Jax is looking your way.
Right, then. Don't want to disappoint. You stay close though, mate. We don't know this crowd.
SEE? Sigh.
Having fun, boys?
Aiden, this beautiful blond is named Jessica. Jessica, this is Aiden.
Jason, I brought you a lovely, raven-haired Charissa. Charissa, meet Jason.
I, however, have been dancing with this delightful redhead. Julia, meet Aiden and Jason, some friends of mine.
Bartender, round of shots, please, liquor of choice.
Drink up, ladies and gentlemen (and Aiden), it's going to be a very long and happy night.
Wow, Thassodar, that sounds like some party. I'm almost sorry that me and the hubby just had a romantic dinner tonight. Almost sorry, that is.
So glad I don't get hungover. Thass is lookin a bit rough this morning though. heh. Fun night.
Too bad most of what happened is a bit rough to discuss on a family website, eh Aidan? Good fight though, and good fortune no other rangers were around to witness it. The lord prince would not approve of you playing knight in shining armor for some stranger human girl.
Yeah well that wasn't going to end well for someone. Better him than her. I'm just glad we got out before the cops showed.
You guys make me feel better, Thanks. Wish I could have gone to your party but to be honest, I'd be a bit scared of your crowd. Mine was all Goth, but harmless really.Mostly young, y'know. You guys sound kinda old.
Oh, I don't know, Candy. Sounds like they had a pretty good time. Sure wish I'd been there.
22 is NOT old.
Jason's the one who's old. But you'd never know it by looking at him. Charissa didn't seem to notice.
You could have come with us, sure, but it was kind of wild. I wouldn't let anything happen to either of you, anyway. Next time.
Thanks, Aidan. My mom will be happy to know that you've got my back.
Not as happy as you might think, sweetie.
Don't get me wrong - Aidan and his brothers seem like good chaps, but I'm not sure I'd want them hanging out with my teenaged daughter.
My children, without a doubt. If it came down to me or them, me every time! Touch wood!!!
I love all of my pride-females the same. Elder is so wise and sweet, she's the Queen and sort of my equal. She's older than I am and very smart, a cunning huntress. Mystery is young and strong and beautiful. Me and Clever went into another territory and rescued Tangy, who was skinny and needed a pride, she's a good huntress, very strong and good at a kill bite. Teaser came from Elder's pride and she's young and a good huntress. Toothy is young too and Elder treats her like she's her daughter even though she's not. So we have five females in our pride and I love them all and my cousin Clever who's like my brother. He's very smart and I'm bigger, stronger and a good leader.
We all have a happy family but sometimes the girls fight. Elder sometimes has to tell off Toothy who gets a bit egotistic after a hunt, but she's all right. She's very good at a kill bite and Elder is smart enough to manage her well. Elder is the leader of the females and very good at it.
And I love my cubs! We have lots of cubs! They're little and full of energy, chasing around and playing all the time. I love having my tail pounced on.
I'm surrounded by cats that I love and I would die to protect any of them. I'm happy and proud to lead this pride.
