Your World: Monsters

In southern Louisiana – where some of my characters have lived – there are plenty of dangerous creatures in the wild, including stealthy, easily camouflaged ones like the alligator pictured here. Of course, every place has its share of so-called “monsters” – from untamed animals to mythological beasts – which makes me wonder...

What sort of monsters inhabit your world, and what do you do to protect yourself from them?

As always, this question is for authors and characters alike!

Hmm; I haven't created a world with "actual" monsters yet. I have the literary sorts - drugs, alcohol, gangsters, abusers - for my women's fiction; an evil robot for my sci-fy; and some nasty magicians for my fantasy. But actual monsters - aside from the Monster Mash flash fiction, and if your story is all "monsters" at a party then I don't think they count - I just haven't given them a thought.

How weird. I love stories with monsters. Oh my Laura; now you have given me something to think about in my fantasy and urban fantasy writings.

Hundreds of thousands of demons, all which take different forms, and all headed up by Asmodai, a king of Hell.

I’m a highly effective monster; but that’s more you human’s fault than mine. I prefer my hoofed meat on the gamier side usually. But in the cities; I gotta make do with what prey presents itself.

Seriously, I’d never take a second sniff at you if it wasn’t for those awful clumping sounds you make in your platforms. Seriously ladies; if you want to keep this Werewolf more interested in breeding with you than eating you as a tasty treat; lose the platforms and wear sensible shoes.

Oh, a werewolf. I've never met one before. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

Yes, it's nice to have a werewolf around again. Another one - Alexander Clark, I believe - used to visit CIC a lot, but alas, it's been a while since I've seen him. I sure hope he and Charles (his traveling companion) are doing okay these days.

Until they surface again, it will be curious to get to know you, Reggie, so welcome aboard!

Of course, I'd appreciate it if you didn't devour any of us while you're here. And for the record, I do where sensible shoes. After all, it would be terribly difficult to walk in platform heels on the beach where I live.

Likewise, Saxen. I work hard at keeping my human form, but sometimes, the footwear is distracting . .

Olivia, you have the scent of a brood about you :) I'm not into fish, but I love a barefoot woman.

Aidan, Kae; I love the hunt when I'm a wolf. Give me a growl sometime . .

It's Kaelin, please.

(laughs) Oh yeah. I forgot to list Kaelin under "monster".

A polite monster.
