Getting to Know You: Sanctuary

No matter where we live, what we do, and who we love, we all experience sadness, frustration, and stress from time to time.

When such trying times occur in your life, how do you escape for a while? Do you have a private sanctuary? A hidden beach, an underground cave, a room all your own, or something else altogether? And if not, where would you escape if you could?

As always, this question is for authors and characters alike!

My home is the refuge for many people when they need to be reminded of whose they are.

A couple of times Marenya has set up a quiet, stone room for me to sleep in. that's pretty cool.

Well, that's nice of Marenya - especially since, if I remember correctly, stone is the only thing that keeps you from hearing others' thoughts, which, as tempting a skill as that might sound, must get tiring at times.

Of course, I'm never surprised by Marenya's acts of kindness.

Neither am I, Laura. Marenya is always doing kind things for others.

In my own life, I have a few places of escape. The solarium/studio in my house. The ocean right outside my door. And, if those don't work, the undeveloped beaches and mud flats north of town usually do the trick.

The space between the night and the dawn is my sanctuary. In those moments, the world is quiet, my thoughts are clear, and the characters dance their lives across the stage of my screen.

Yet each time, as the light of dawn steals through the curtains, and the fire of the cold night dies, my characters fade. The world awakes, and my sanctuary is gone, until the next time.

That's lovely, David. And I feel exactly the same way. At least we're lucky enough to experience our sanctuaries so often.

I go deep into the Mystical wood and sit with my Unicorn whose lovely golden eyes always give me peace and tell me there really is goodness in the world.

Gabby- will you not lose your Peace if you find Love?

Gabby said...

David - as long as I stay in the wood I am safe, but you're right, if I let love grow and become part of me, in the outside world I will be killed.

Oh, Gabby, that might be the saddest thing I ever heard.

Love is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I feel stronger every day because of it.

In fact, that's my sanctuary - being with Jesse Littleton - and for that (among so many other reasons), I've always been grateful for him.

As I'm travelling all the time I guess my safe place is when I'm on my cell talking to Mike back in California. Hmm. Hadn't really realized that before. I used to think him wierd cause he has cerebral palsy, but now I don't even notice it. He's always there when I need him. Makes everything okay.
