What If... You Had All the Time in the World?

I can't believe it's been two weeks since our last conversation. But, then again, as the only active site moderator, I must admit that it's not always easy keeping up with my commitment to Come In Character. Unfortunately, as much as I love escaping into my fictional worlds, travel guide deadlines must come first. Of course, I'm sure that other authors (as well as their characters) understand the bothersome necessity of priorities – icky as they may be.

Still, CIC is never far from my mind – as are the works-in-progress that are currently gathering dust on my office floor. Like many of us, I wish that I had more time in the day to accomplish everything on my ever-growing to-do list, but alas, time is finite... or is it?

After all, so much concern over priorities has led me to wonder:

What if time wasn't an issue? What if you, in fact, were immortal and had all the time in the world? What would you do with it?

All authors and characters – including the immortal ones – are free to answer!

I would read.

Dude. You are immortal.

Kaelin said...

I still would read, if I had more time.

Hello, I'm an original character in a Doctor Who fanfic, so I'm actually hanging out with someone who is essentially immortial.
It's not all it's cracked up to be.

Why would I want to? This world is fine, but it is not meant to last forever. There is more waiting for us.

Well, Micah, as a die-hard atheist, I'd have to respectfully disagree. I don't expect to find anything after this life, so I aim to make it count... which means more time would definitely be appreciated.

If we lived forever, strong and healthy,I would do and be many things, A dancer for a while, a farmer,a university student of anthropology. All sorts of things. Maybe instead of time I could have the energy not to have to sleep at night so I day would go on forever.

Author ok to post?

If time wasn't an issue for me, I could edit my favorite novels, write the shiny new ideas (edit them as well) and spend all the time with the grandchildren that they deserve.

The real kids, not the fictional ones that love me just cuz I exist.

And then, of course, I'd opt for some super powers . .

Hi, Donna! Of course, it's okay for authors to answer today's question. "What If..." posts are always meant for everyone.

And, yes, if I had all the time in the world, I'd also spend it working on my novels and hanging out with my family. Traveling around the globe and learning to play the cello would be on the menu, too.

Of course, as with Candy, I could definitely use an endless supply of energy. How else would I manage to achieve all my goals?

Hmmm... that depends. Do you mean, all the time in the world with limitless resources, or all the time in the world in which to support myself?

If I had limitless resources, I would just quit my job and write. If I had to support myself for eternity... well, that would be depressing!

Good point, Christine. I guess time isn't everything... unlimited money would certainly help, too.

Seems that neither is adequate on its own.

Christine Hardy said...

"Time is money." This is true!

Which must be why the twins are so rich.

Aidan said...

We're only 22. So how does that make us rich?

Christine Hardy said...

It was a joke. Nevermind.

If I had all the time in the world, I would learn how to paint. Like really paint. I dabble a bit doing crafty things but I'd like to learn how to do really beautiful oil paintings.

For some reason, I see myself raising about twenty children. With Jason's help.

Aidan would just play with them.

Faldur said...

All the time in the world. I've never thought about it. Can't even imagine it.

My apologies. Time to patrol.

Aidan said...

Hey! I can do more than just play.

But playing with them is fun. I mean, that's what I've heard.

Olivia Harper said...

I hate to burst your bubble, Marenya, but Aidan as a father?!

Ooh, scary.

(Just kidding, Aidan. You'd be a great playmate - I mean, dad.)

Aidan said...

How hard can it be?

Michael Harper said...

Ha!

(says the man with two teenagers)

Devi Marconi said...

Ha indeed!

(says the women with THREE daughters)

Ginger said...

For the number of times those two sneak off together, yes I can see them having twenty children. It's a bit revolting, really.

Olivia Harper said...

Aw, Ginger, it's not revolting. They're in love!

Although, I must admit, it's a wonder she's not pregnant yet.
