What If... You Could Live Anywhere?

It's been well over a month since we played the “What If?” game, so perhaps it's time for another round.

Well, then, let's get to it. Authors and characters, I ask you:

What if you could live anywhere – any landmark, any landscape, any town, any country, any planet, any galaxy? Where would it be, and why?

That's a tough question for me. After all, I live in the place that I've always dreamed about. But, if not for Ruby Hollow, I must admit that islands have always fascinated me, so perhaps I'd find a little one in the middle of the ocean and stay for a while.

Well, you know, Mom, you're always welcome on my island. It's not in the middle of the ocean, but the northern end feels pretty remote.

I'm the king's daughter here, so I'm supposed to love Zora. It is very pretty, especially when the sun lights up the forests in the valley. But a part of me has always wanted to explore. I want to visit Kaltan in the plains, and see what the Barren Dessert is like. Then I'd probably like to settle down on an island like you, Devi, away from everyone, except the one or two people who I really love. Not my parents of course--even if they were magically removed from their post, (which couldn't happen unless they both did something really abominable, because they possess the ring), they would be scheming on how to reclaim it. And...

I'm not supposed to speak of this. I have very good parents who do the will of the Dark Lord as commanded through the Seruva.

If Nithya had her way, she would love to have me sent to that deserted island. Oh great. That makes her sound like a fire-breathing Fag-Horn. She's not, though. She's just doing it for my good.
But if I had my way (and if I didn't have the Mark) I would be in the middle of the Capital City of Zora, or in the middle of battles.
But I have to stop thinking about this! It's like beating my head on a wall. I can never do this, except in my dreams. And then it hurts too much to come back to reality. So I'll try to stay in the present world, at the pottery wheel, resisting my urge to pound the clay into a blob.

Laura Martone said...

Wow, Starlin, forgive me! I didn't mean for my innocent question to get you so riled up. Hope something pretty comes of your clay-pounding.

As for me, I'm not sure where I'd like to live. No wonder the hubby, the kitty, and I move around so much. Depending on the season, you'll find us in New Orleans, northern Michigan, or the City of Angels. And that doesn't include our travels.

If we could live anywhere, we'd probably choose an underground cave system like Ruby Hollow or Devi's deserted island, though Italy might be nice, too.

Belhanor, full time.

After all you've been through, Aidan, that makes a lot of sense. ;-)

Aidan said...

It's so much more fun there. And I have a new horse. His name is Nightstalker.

Marenya said...

He's not yours yet, Aidan. The King just loaned him to you.

But I'm willing to bet he'd be glad to give him to you just to be rid of him.

Ginger said...

Don't be offended, Marenya, but I don't like Belhanor that much.

I'm ready to go home.

Marenya said...

I know, Ginger. I'm so sorry.

But, you and Kaelin have been hiding in your room all morning. So perhaps things are taking a turn for the better?

Marenya said...

I simply adore L.A.! Aidan bought me a boat and we cruise there. But I'm hoping to go lots of other places.

So, I'd live on the boat.

It's a super-yacht, actually. With a full crew. My wedding gift from him.

Olivia Harper said...

Oh, Marenya, your boat sounds lovely. Ours is rather small by comparison - course, we'd never attempt to live on it.

As for Aidan's horse, though, I'm a wee bit jealous. Although I've been horse-back riding on South Padre Island (where I live), I've never actually owned a horse of my own. Must be wonderful - if expensive.

Ginger said...

I would like to live on a Caribbean island. A private island, with horses.

And no enemies.

Ginger said...

Excuse me, I need to make a phone call.

Marenya said...

(laughs) Trust me Olivia, you don't want this horse! We named him after a brutal killer for a reason.

But you're welcome to come riding with us any time.

Aidan said...

Nightstalker is a pussycat. Or a teddy bear. like Kae. Right Ginger?

Aidan said...

Ginger, Kaelin will get you an island.

Olivia Harper said...

A pussycat like Kaelin? Uh, never mind.

Olivia Harper said...

Oh, but, Marenya, I would LOVE to go riding with you guys sometime. I'm sure the hubby would, too.

Ginger said...

You know, I thought your ken couldn't read through stone, Aidan.

Can you tell what I'm thinking right now? I hope so.

Marenya said...

Perhaps we should have everyone to Belhanor for a visit? What do you think?

Marenya said...

Aidan, could you at least PRETEND not to listen in on private conversations?

Ginger said...

Look, I need to go for a walk or something.

It was nice talking to you Olivia. I just need....

Have a good rest of your holiday weekend. I'm sorry I'm not very sociable today.

Bye.

Marenya said...

(sigh) Maybe she'd feel better if we let her cook something.

Faldur said...

Faldur said...

Or perhaps she needs one of those pottery wheels to pound clay on.

Good morning, Olivia. Devi. Laura. It is such a great pleasure to see you again.

Aris and Starlin, please allow me to introduce myself. Captain Faldur Relaszen, formerly King's Ranger of Belhanor. Currently... nothing at all.

Since I only just came back from the dead. I'm not quite sure what my next commission will be. (laughs)

If I could live anywhere, I'd go back to Heaven. But I'm stuck in Belhanor for the time being.

Christine said...

Oh my goodness, who knew when I came up with that name (Belhanor) we'd be using it online.

I don't really like it but it's the best I could come up with after months of agonizing.

Christine said...

I've always wanted to live in Colorado. Someplace with mountains and horses and lakes and lots of open space. I love quaking aspens.

Laura Martone said...

Oh, Christine, I've always wanted to live in Colorado, too! But my hubby is less than thrilled. Hates winters. And people wonder why we only live in Michigan during the summer months...

Devi Marconi said...

Faldur, it's lovely to see you again, too! So, you're back from the dead, huh? However did you manage such a feat?

Olivia Harper said...

Poor Ginger. She always seems so stressed out and unhappy. I've been wondering, in fact, how she was doing lately, and I see that things are still unsettled. I certainly hope that life improves for her soon - and that Aidan stops teasing her.

Perhaps you're right, Marenya. Perhaps she could release some of that tension by cooking - she certainly seems to enjoy that. And a party sounds like a wonderful idea! No doubt I'll be able to convince the family to make a quick getaway to Belhanor. I'll bet it's lovely at this time of year.

Aidan said...

Kidding, Gingersnap. you know you're my favorite sister in law.

I think the king is giving you horses, right? There are a lot of great horses there, some colts from Nightstalker. I can think of one mare in particular...

Faldur said...

I didn't manage anything, Devi. Aidan decided I should return, and Aidan gets what Aidan wants. If you haven't noticed that already.

Marenya said...

She has good reason to be upset, Olivia. This was her first attempt at socializing since...

Since she was rescued. She came here to call her father and tell him she's all right. No signal in Belhanor.

But it's only been a day and a half. She just needs time.

Marenya said...

Belhanor is lovely every time of year. But then, I'm far from impartial.

I'll speak to the Queen about a place for us to meet. The Hanorja aren't too fond of humans (except Ginger) so we'll have to keep it secret. I'm sure she'll have an idea.

Perhaps even one of the private palaces!

Olivia Harper said...

Oh, well, I certainly don't want to get you in any trouble, Marenya... and frankly, I'm not sure how comfortable I'll be in a place that doesn't approve of humans.

Aidan said...

Maybe wE can have them all when we get our place, Marenya. Another thing I'm working on...

Marenya said...

Oh, no, it's no trouble Olivia. The reason that my people don't like humans is that they've invaded us so many times. But those are brutal warriors, not lovely people like you.

Aidan, what about our place?

Olivia Harper said...

Well, just keep me posted, Marenya. The family and I would meet you guys anywhere!

Okay, well, maybe not Libya at the moment... but almost anywhere else!

Aidan said...

Oh. Did i say that out loud?

Olivia Harper said...

Yes, Aidan, you did. But, somehow, I doubt you did anything you don't mean to... *wink*

Kaelin said...

Actually, he spouts off stuff he didn't mean to say all the time.

Olivia Harper said...

Yeah, Kaelin, I kinda figured as much. ;-)
